Opinion:
Technologic change has become a way of life. A certainty. Humans adjust to change.

Societal and business changes have happened from the telephone …automobile …television… ATM …super computer … cell phone … internet … smart phone … cloud computing …. Where has the win been? In efficiency and better ways to live and to do as humans. Skepticism has been present in the product/service life cycle of these innovations. Is skepticism a bad thing in life? No. Standing still and letting life pass by is a bad thing.

A key to innovation is how to use and how to apply in both personal lives and business lives. That is a human element of choice. Should one develop 100% reliance on AI? No! Can a human or business use AI to increase potential, to understand, and to interpret? Yes! As Greg Abel, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, said “We’re not doing AI for the sake of AI.” Which would lead to doing AI for the benefit of AI. Having a skeptical eye on how to use is not a bad thing. It promotes acceptance with a human interface.

Humans have brains, feelings, and intuition. Programs and machines cannot have all three. Technologic breakthroughs can start as a threat to the way of doing life or business. And, Life evolves. Business evolves. Process evolves.

Specifically, What is an accountant to do? Be skeptical but adopt. AI can assist with insight, reasoning, and interpretation. What does accounting do? Be skeptical but adapt. Use beyond the numbers to make processes more efficient and more beneficial to the client.

AI is the current but will not be the final technologic change. As humans, we learn and we apply. Now is that time but keeping a skeptical view can keep the change in focus to win.
